Amanda Knight is an abolitionist and justice impacted advocate. She was given a 71-year sentence at the age of 21 and is incarcerated in the Washington Correction Center for Women. She serves as a General Council Member and Reentry Lead for The Village – a program started and operated by incarcerated individuals at WCCW, which serves the population with a variety of resources and activities the offer opportunities for growth.
As a Lead of the Reentry Lead, she networks with DOC and community programs to identify opportunities and resources available to individuals soon to be released as well as those working towards means of early release. She ensures those who come to her for help understand what resources are available to them and what questions to ask. She encourages people to be informed and be an advocate for themselves.
She is motivated by the stories of women who pass through WCCW – the hurdles they’ve faced and overcome to get to this point in their lives often reflect courage, determination, and ingenuity that they don’t see in themselves. She believes we all have a choice in the narrative of our lives: We can choose to be the villain, the victim, or the hero. But no matter which role we choose, we will always be the author.
